Crazy Horse - Hull #8 of 16

This proven boat could be called an Express Cruiser, a Motor Yacht and even a Downeaster, but regardless, the quality and the pedigree of having been designed by C. Raymond Hunt and built by the reputable Dettling Yacht Company, has distinguished itself as a premier yacht with a superb reputation.

Ed Dettling produced what are considered to be some of the finest US-built boats. It has been said that he has a "relentless pursuit of perfection". That coupled with the reputation of C. Raymond Hunt designers and naval architects, with a long record of turning out some the finest, driest, offshore performance hulls, make this boat quite exceptional. Convinced that the quality and integrity of the basic components- hull, deck, and superstructure were paramount, Dettling decided to subcontract the work to a builder they knew they could trust, the Hinckley Yacht Company of Southwest Harbor, Maine. Once Hinkley had laid up and cured each hull, deck, and superstructure, the components were trucked to the Dettling yard in Easton, Maryland, where a 12-man crew invests some 19,000 man-hours to bring each 51 to completion. It is all about the details.

This boat can cruise economically at any speed. At 20 kts the fuel consumption is a mere 23 gph. At 16 kts the consumption is 17 gph. Crazy Horse will cruise all day at 17 to 20 kts. without strain on the boat or the operator. All machinery is balanced into the aft section, therefore the noise levels inside the boat are minimal. The raised Express bridge, which can be open or closed, offers 360-degree visibility, allowing the owners to be able to cruise easily in quiet and comfort. If you want even more visibility, simply slide open the large centerline hatch, step up on the teak parquet and you have an instant flying bridge.

Not many of these solid, handsome boats hit the market. If you want to see a true example of a ?Gentleman?s Yacht", with the finest craftsmanship, a rich and warm interior, in absolutely great condition, don't miss the chance to view this fine cruising yacht. You will not be disappointed in what you see. Crazy Horse is now in heated winter storage in Charlevoix, Michigan. An easy drive from Traverse City?s Cherry Capital Airport.

Crazy Horse has been in fresh water since 2019. Always in heated indoor storage in off-season. The boat has been serviced and maintained by the finest yard on the Great Lakes. You will see that the vessel has been brought up to the highest standards. No expense has been spared. Ed Dettling would approve.

Below you'll see this boat is unique and even more desirable due to the Cummins Engine replacement done in 2016. Transmissions underwent removal and service in 2015. New prop shafts, motor mounts and dripless seals in 2023. The boat comes with a spare prop shaft and spare props. There are even two folding bikes stowed under the Owner?s Berth, along with custom screens for the Pilot House.

All service manuals and guides are stowed onboard, along with many spares and consumables.

The included tender is a 2017 Zodiac Cadet 310 RIB (Neo Gray) powered by a Johnson outboard (serviced in 2024).

Important Notes:

The Cummins Mains 6CTA 8.3 M-3 430 hp were replaced with New Cummins engines in 2016. Under the Cummins ReCon Program every ReCon engine is completely disassembled down to the last nut and bolt, thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and fitted with new parts as needed. Critical wear parts such as rings, bearings, seals, and gaskets are replaced with genuine new Cummins parts. The engines have 2016 serial numbers and approximately 1,200 hours since installation in July of 2016. The cost for this program was over $67,000.00. Transmissions were pulled and serviced in 2015. 1,000 Hour Service was completed by Authorized Technician MR Power Specialists in June of 2019.

Fluid sample analysis from purchase in 2019 through 2023. All reports are in the normal range. Cummins Technician was on the boat in August 2023 to go over the engines. Both engines check out to spec. Motors stamped 2016 along with transmissions also rebuilt. Spare shafts, props and all equipment needed for a turnkey cruising vessel.
